WinSpeedUp provides a centralized location from which you can access a variety of tools you can use to tune and optimize your Windows operating system for optimal performance. With WinSpeedUp you can remove junk files, clean up the Registry, free RAM memory, optimize the boot process, customize how Windows looks, and more. There’s even a WinSpeedUp Wizard that will scan your system and find items that can be optimized.

You will spend little time on getting the WinSpeedUp installation file onto your computer, as it is only 3.7MB in size. A setup wizard that asks you to choose between several supported languages will guide you through the installation process. The developer recommends that you use WinSpeedUp to optimize anything from Windows 98 up to Windows XP. To optimize Windows Vista or Windows 7, you are invited to try WinLube, a properly good tuning tool from the same developer.

The first time you run WinSpeedUp, you will be asked to pick one of two user-modes: Beginner- intermediate (hides functions that could harm your computer when used improperly) and Advanced-experienced (shows all functions, even those that have the potential to do harm when used incorrectly). The first time you run WinSpeedUp, you will also be asked to save the current state of your computer with SettingFreeze. If anything bad happens, you can restore your machine and undo harmful changes.

The fact that the interface has a dated look does not affect the application’s ease of use. Using WinSpeedUp is a very simple process – the interface displays the application’s main functions to the left. Click the buttons to the left to access more info about that category. If you click the Cleanup button, for example, you will be presented with three tabs: Hard Drive (remove junk files, defragment and back up the hard drive, clean up the Start Menu), Registry (start RegEdit, clean up the Registry), and Physical Memory (free RAM memory). Click through all the buttons to the left to view all the features and tools provided by WinSpeedUp.

A very handy feature is the WinSpeedUp Wizard. Run the Wizard and WinSpeedUp will scan your system and identify tuning possibilities; it will then present a list of items that can be optimized; you can choose the items from the list and they will be optimized.

Please note that WinSpeedUp is shareware – the trial version has limited functionality to offer.

Use the tools included in WinSpeedUp to tune and optimize your system, or let the application’s Wizard automatically detect and improve your system’s performance.

Pros

It takes little time to download and install WinSpeedUp; the developer recommends you to use it on Windows 98 up to Windows XP (for Vista and Windows 7, it is recommended that you use WinLube instead). Choose between two user-modes. Buttons to the left of WinSpeedUp’s interface provide easy access to all the functionality of the application. There’s a handy WinSpeedUp Wizard that will identify and list items that can be optimized. Save the current state of your computer with SettingFreeze. Detailed Manual and online tutorials are available. Support for multiple languages is provided.

Cons

The interface feels dated. Limited functionality in the trial version of WinSpeedUp.
